I was born and raised in the Thunder Bay area near Hymers Ontario with a “healthy” exposure to most things church. My earliest memories are of my parents sending myself and my older sister across the driveway from the Parsonage we were renting, to the little Free Methodist Church for Sunday School. As a teen I had “finished” Sunday School but continued to have the influence of Christian friends that I still know and love very much, but I didn’t know and truly love the Lord back then. I thought I was a Christian because I knew everything about the Gospel; I believed it all in my head, and I tried to live a good life.
Turns out, God had me marry one of those friends. Bonnie wouldn’t marry an unbeliever but… one day I recalled that years back, in that Sunday School as a 10-year-old, I had prayed “the prayer”. It wasn't until well into our marriage that God really grabbed my heart and I went from, as one missionary called it, a fan to a follower. God radically changed my life's trajectory.
We’ve now been married 43 years and were blessed with 2 sons along the way. Both boys are happily married to wonderful women. All are Believers and serve in their respective churches; one couple right here at CBC. We rejoice in God blessing us with 9 beautiful grandchildren ranging in age from 20 to 3.
We’ve spent the past 35 years at Community Baptist, the last 18 of which I have been tagged as pastor. Both Bonnie and I have served in various ministries and positions and it was during those years that God grabbed hold of me one night and took me from a place of simply knowing about the Lord and His Gospel, to truly knowing and embracing Jesus Christ as my true Lord and Saviour.
I’ve had very little formal pastoral training but I do believe that God has qualified my call through many of the trials and experiences He’s brought me to, and through. God has richly blessed and trained me through what I like to call; His School of Hard Knocks. In a world that is confused about life and is increasingly God-less I am committed to guide this Church Family through His infallible, inerrant Word that is truly “profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”, and has in it, all that we need for “life and godliness”. My heart’s truest desire is to care for these people God has entrusted to my care, hoping and praying that in my years of leadership here, many have been given the hope found in His Word and in their relationship with Him in their times of trial and pain.
As I continue my own journey of faith and service, with the Lord’s help, I hope to be “always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord [my] labor is not in vain.” I am dedicated to spreading the message of love, hope, joy, and peace through the redemption that is found by grace alone, through faith alone, in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. Because; “To Him is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is His. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.”
