Message: The God Who Is Near (Pt 3 of 6)
Solemn Rest & Generous Giving
Exodus 35:1-29
Pastor Anthony
Message Outline
1. Sabbath Rest was about celebrating and affirming God’s design
i) The command and the consequence
a) The Sabbath was to be solemn; holy to the Lord
b) The consequence for breaking the command was death
ii) The Sabbath was important to creation & made a statement about who God is
iii) The Sabbath leads us to the supremacy of God
iv) The Sabbath shows us what’s really important
v) Shows that you are linked with who God is & not with what you do or accomplish
2. Sabbath Rest celebrates God’s design through the Gospel and salvation through Christ
i) Sabbath rest is now found in Jesus
ii) Failure to find the true rest that only Jesus can give forfeits our soul
3. Giving celebrates God’s design seen through His people’s generosity
i) Our giving comes from what is already owned
ii) The heart’s motive is important in true giving
iii) Generous giving is an act of worship and love toward God
iv) Willing, generous, joyful, giving, affirms and celebrates the fact that it is God who supplies
4. The spiritual value of Sabbath rest and generous giving
i) They remind us that rest & possessions are not ultimate; God is
ii) They create a gap that is filled by faith
iii) They are ways to show others that we trust and worship the one true God
iv) They create Community; something we do together; it’s very important to us
